Saving a child's life from suffocation

This new success story begins with the mother noticing that her one-year-old daughter suffers from suffocation and is in critical condition, so going to the Saudi German Hospital Dammam branch was the best decision to save the child's life.

The emergency department of the Saudi German Hospital, Dammam branch, was fully prepared to receive the case, where the child was quickly examined, and x-ray were performed, to determine the cause of suffocation, and the reason was swallowing a squared pin, which settled in the second part of the duodenum.

And it was time for the intervention of the Gastroenterology and Endoscopy Department medical team; under the supervision of Dr. Hussein Issa to extract the pin using the pediatric gastroscope and with the help of the anesthesiologist, as the case required placing the child under general anesthesia to ensure that the pin is extracted accurately and avoid any complications.

The pin was safely extracted and the child was placed under observation for one day in the hospital to follow up on her health.

Dr. Hussein Issa, Head of Gastroenterology and Endoscopy the Department at the Saudi Hospital, Dammam Branch, added the importance of not leaving small or sharp tools that the child may swallow and cause a perforation in the esophagus or intestines and some cases may lead to death.
